The Rule Financial 2012 OTC clearing and collateral management buy-side survey was today distributed to hundreds of asset and investment managers. It is anticipated that their responses will complement our extensive sell-side knowledge and enable us to form a comprehensive and in-depth report on OTC clearing and collateral management.
The report will provide a snapshot of the ways in which today’s financial institutions are coming to terms with imminent regulatory reform and will allow market participants to assess their OTC clearing and collateral management plans in relation to industry standards. Particularly in terms of regulatory compliance, where some firms will inevitably lose money while others manage to adapt to the new climate in ways that will increase business profitability, we hope to offer participants a rare opportunity to judge the relative aptitude of their OTC clearing and collateral management systems.
Our survey spans OTC clearing and collateral management, covering topics such as:
- Overall strategy
- Operating model
- Technology
- Margining and collateral management
- Documentation
All responses are kept strictly confidential and results will be collated anonymously before being published in aggregate form, taking care that no individual firm can be identified by its characteristics.
Since the 2008 financial crisis governments, nongovernmental organisations and international institutions have taken it upon themselves to reign in the financial sector with a barrage of regulatory reforms. Consequently, many financial institutions have found themselves in unchartered territory with very little guidance as to how best to preserve business profitability whilst complying with increasingly stringent regulations. The results of the 2012 Rule Financial OTC clearing and collateral management buy-side survey will shed light on the ways in which different institutions are coping with this climate of uncertainty and the consequent report will provide valuable insight into the world of OTC clearing and collateral management and regulatory compliance.
“With Banks facing massive change as a result of the new regulations there is a natural industry focus on how the sell-side is preparing for OTC clearing regulation, and the specific services they are consequentially forming. We feel now is the right time to conduct this survey to ensure collective client side wants and needs are actually going to be satisfied by this; not only to meet the new regulatory burden, but also to ensure the tools and services the client side need for their businesses to be able to thrive in the new landscape.” David Holcombe, Rule Financial Markets and Trading expert.
